Abstract

The research deals with the study of an artistic phenomenon closely related to metaphor, which is personification (which is the attribution of human qualities to inanimate objects) in the poetry of an
Abbasid poet, Mahmoud bin Hassan al-Warraq al-Baghdadi (d. 230 AH). We have tried to monitor this phenomenon in his poetry and to stand on its dimensions, aesthetics, and its effect in enriching the poetic text by monitoring the most important images formed from the art of personification that the poet employed in the folds of his poetry in order to create an imaginary reality in his textual space to broadcast through it what is going on in his chest of sadness, joy, rebellion against reality, criticism of it, and other things, and to depict and personify the image of that reality in which he lives and what the state of people and society was like at that time through this beautiful rhetorical art.
