الملخص

The mass media play an important role in providing the public with information and news of various issues that directly affect their lives, and the public deals with these means as they represent an important source for them from the sources of obtaining information, especially after the tremendous development that has occurred in the field of modern technology, media and communication.
The researcher decided to study the dependence of the public in the city of Mosul and its tendency towards various news sources, which include (press, radio, TV channels, and the Internet).
As this research specialized in a field study that included the city of Mosul and took a random sample of (200) respondents, with the aim of identifying the news sources that the Mosul public uses in obtaining news, whether local or Iraqi, and determining which of these sources has priority in the public's interest And knowing the reasons and motives that led the public in Mosul to rely on a specific source and not others.
This research is considered descriptive research, and the researcher has relied on the survey method in line with the requirements of the research, its procedural nature and its being the most appropriate method for descriptive studies , Among the most important findings of his findings is that social media sites ranked first among other means for the public to rely on as a source of information, as it reached (54.4%), as for television channels, they ranked second, then in that radio stations, as they ranked third, and newspapers came in last place as it reached (0.8%).
