This research presents a sociological study of the social and political dimensions of authority and power in Iraqi society. The study aims to understand how authority is formed, the sources of its power, and the mechanisms it relies on to impose influence, obedience, and continuity. The research presents the conceptual framework of authority, power, and legitimacy, while explaining the historical and social context of authority formation in Iraq. The study discusses the sources of authority and power in Iraqi society, namely political, tribal, and religious authority, analyzing the role and limits of influence of each. It also examines the mechanisms of exercising authority, whether coercive, economic, or ideological, highlighting the role of institutional organization, wealth, and political discourse in reinforcing power and control. The study concludes that political and social transformations have created an imbalance in the distribution of authority and power, making it necessary to establish a strong legitimate authority based on societal awareness and a balance between power, acceptance, and social consensus to ensure overall stability.
