Abstract

The relationship between poetry and the various narrative arts is a fundamental one due to several factors, foremost among them poetry's reliance on characters to recount the events of a poem, in a manner comparable to the narrator in different narrative forms. A poem often contains a poetic event that requires time, place, and a poetic vision in the construction of its poetic space. Since the pioneering stage of modern Arabic poetry, Arab poetics has sought to develop its structures through extensive technical interaction with the mechanisms of narrative arts. The values of this generic interpenetration between poetry and narrative continued to evolve in subsequent generations of modern Arab poets, taking diverse forms, manifestations, and poetic approaches The poet Saniyya Salih possesses a distinctive poetic voice and a unique individuality on multiple levels, including her ability to engage in generic interaction with narrative art and to benefit from its mechanisms and techniques in developing her poetic model according to a modern vision uniquely her own
