The impact of using digital technologies in visual media on the health of those involved in communication

Abstract

This study, entitled “The Impact of Using Digital Technologies in Visual Media on the Health of Media Practitioners,” aims to identify the level of digital technology use in visual media among media practitioners, to determine the most prominent physical health effects resulting from continuous exposure to digital devices, and to reveal the psychological effects associated with intensive digital media work.

The study adopts a descriptive approach and employs the survey method. A questionnaire was designed to collect data based on a three-point Likert scale. The research sample consisted of (124) media practitioners working in Iraqi visual media who are members of the electronic group of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate.

Among the most important conclusions reached by the researcher are the following:

1.           Digital technologies are integrated into all areas of work within visual media institutions in Iraq.

2.             Despite the importance of digital technologies and the growing need for them in media work, their excessive use has resulted in significant and multiple negative effects on the physical and psychological health of media practitioners, which in turn negatively affects their overall quality of life.
